║ Classic Above Board Network Compatibility: J-S ║
║ ║
╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
ARCNET PC & PC100 (STANDARD MICROSYSTEMS)
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards, although there
might be an issue if trying to set up Expanded Memory in an 80286-based
computer that has an EGA or VGA card and an SMC Arcnet card. These
cards use 64k of reserved memory.
Standard Microsystems is now able to offer a "workaround" solution for
users who are trying to use the Standard Microsystems ARCNET board in a
system with AB and EGA's or other boards that cause a memory space
conflict. The Model 120 (Star topology) or Model 220 (Bus topology)
use only 16K of space, rather than the 64K normally required. Also,
the Model 100M (discontinued) was modified to work with only 16k. For
information, the Customer should be directed to call:

LANTASTIC BY ARTISOFT
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards. LANTASTIC is made
by Artisoft (ph: (602) 293-6363). They make LAN hardware and software.
They have 3 classic bus boards.
Tech Notes:
The 10 meg board uses 8K of memory. The starting address can be set to
anything between 8000 and E800 (I think on 8K boundaries, so 8000,
8200, 8400, etc). You set the address by adding a parameter to the NE3
command in the autoexec or LAN start-up batch files. The parameter to
add is RAMBASE=address (8000 to E800). The default address is D000.
There are 2 "2 Meg" boards. Both boards use 32K of memory. The newer
version (released 11/89) has a 16-bit bus connector. The memory
address is set by software. Look for the LANBIOS2 command in the
autoexec or LAN start-up batch file. Add the following parameter:
RAMBASE=address (allowed values are A000, A800, B000, C000, C800, D000,
D800, E000. Note that B800 is NOT allowed). The default address is
D800.
The older 2 Meg board has an 8-bit bus connector and a jumper near the
bottom of the board. The jumper is labeled "ADDR" and the selections
are numbered 0 through 7. Jumper position 0=C000, 1=E000, 2=D000,
3=F000, 4=C800, 5=E800, 6=D800, 7=F800. The default is D800. You also
need to have a parameter configured to match the jumper. Look for the
LANBIOS command in the autoexec or LAN start-up batch file. Add the
following parameter: ADDRESS=jumper # (0 through 7). The starting
address can also be used in place of the jumper #.
NCR TOKEN RING
*FIELD REPORT* of limited compatibility with Above Boards. This board
doesn't leave enough room for both EMM & a VGA adapter in an 80286-
based computer. EGA, CGA & monochrome should be OK since EMM could
start at either C000 or C400. Extended memory works fine.
Tech Notes: This board is reportedly equivalent to the IBM Token Ring
board but its address options are different. Both RAM & ROM addresses
are controlled by switches on the board.
RAM Addresses: D000*, D200, D400, D600
ROM Addresses: D800*, DC00
* = Default
NOVELL RX NET
*Field reports* of compatibility with Above Boards.
Tech Notes: Uses C000, CC00, D000, DC00.
OPEN NET
Open Net is LAN software and hardware by Intel. It is compatible with
ABs.
Tech Notes:The network adapter board used is the same as the Ungermann
Bass hardware. The notes on UB hardware all apply to Open Net as well.
ORCHID PC-NET
Version 3.0A is incompatible with ANY Expanded Memory Manager because
it uses Int 67h (the same interrupt used to supply expanded memory).
Version 3.0B is compatible with EMM.
If remote reset is used, the workstation uses ROM memory at D000, D200,
D400, or D600. There is a jumper block on the board which allows user
to select which address is used. The manual recommends using D000. If
remote reset is not being used, set the jumper to NO to disable remote
reset.
WARNING!!! One user reported upgrading from Version 3.0A to 3.0B and
EMM was still not loading. Isolated the harddrive 16k caching command
in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This was a 3.0A optional command which can be
overlooked by the system in the upgrade procedure. It needs to be
removed.
PC SLAVE BOARD (ATNX, NTNX, RTNX SOFTWARE)
*FIELD REPORTS* Compatible with Expanded Memory if properly configured,
extended memory works fine with this card without any alterations.
This board is used with one of three software packages: ATNX,NTNX, or
RTNX. For any of these packages, the default INT used is 67H, meaning
no EMS. However the customer can change to DEVICE=??NX.SYS /67:65 to
move the INT used to 65, thereby eliminating the problem. The only
exception is RTNX software earlier than REV 1.96.
Advanced Digital Corporation ph: 714-891-4004
PERSONAL NETWORK STATION
*FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.
This board works with Novell Netware, particularly the ELS Netware. It
has a default RAM packet at C0000 of 4K. This can be relocated to
avoid conflict. The board does not use a ROM address area.
PLAN 2000
*FIELD REPORTS* of limited compatibility with Above Boards. If the AB
and the Plan 2000 card are going into an 8088- or 8086-basec computer
everything will be fine, or if the Above Board is just supplying
extended memory in an 80286-based computer or greater. However, in an
80286-based computer with an EGA/VGA adapter there won't be enough
reserved memory address space for the Above Board to provide expanded
memory.
Tech Notes: The Plan 2000 memory address is D200h. This is not
movable.
PROTEON P1300 & P1300/V
*FIELD REPORTS* Of compatibility with Above Boards.
Tech Notes: When using Remote Reset with the Proteon cards, there is a
Remote Reset PROM at address D800.
